Duncanby Fishing Lodge, one of the most respected salmon and halibut sports
fishing destinations in BC, is now ranked as one of best in Canada.
Located in Rivers Inlet, (GPS 51°24'16.63"N 127°38'43.69"W), on British Columbia’s breathtaking central coast, our guests come from all over Canada, the United States,
and even Europe to experience the Duncanby difference.
Rivers Inlet is nirvana for the sport-fishing enthusiast. Here you’ll find Chinook salmon averaging twice the size of those found elsewhere on the coast. Watch the whales as they dance through the Inlet feeding on nature’s bounty. Catch a glimpse
of the bears as they roam the shoreline in search of mussels or the giant halibut that
swim right under the docks.
Once the most abundant commercial fishing grounds in BC, it is now reserved for
sport fishing enthusiast. Duncanby Landing, as it was once called, used to be the center of a thriving community where many locals came to buy provisions. There was a time when our docks were lined up and down with commercial fishing boats rafted 6 wide on either side. Today, our modern fleet of sport fishing vessels take their place.
The property at Duncanby Fishing Lodge was also a logging camp, now reclaimed by
its lush surroundings. You can still see the markings of cork boots worn by loggers
on some of our planks that are generations old.
The lodge opened in the summer of 2004 for those who share the thrill of hooking a monstrous Tyees on rod and reel in one the world’s most magnificent settings.
My Duncanby
I've stood alone at twilight in the cool of autumn air,
Breathed the evening mist, and knew that I was where
An ounce of peace and quiet is worth its weight in gold,
I've listened to the whisp'ring wash of water on the shore
And it's soothed my weary soul, a million times or more!
I've stood alone, but not alone with my comfort of the sea-
And had a thought that this was mine, and meant for only me.
I've watched the morning sun creep across the bay,
Stretching golden fingers till clouds got in its way,
Weighted the grams of silver shining on the sea-
I've watched it minted daily, a wealth suffice for me.
I've calculated solitude and found in just one day,
My portion here in interest no bank could ever pay
I've seen a Midas touch with carat weight untold
In a molten cerise sunset of solid burnished gold
With outlines of an eagle skimming cartwheels in the sky.
Euphoria overcomes me and I was wondering why
Fools of men think money can pave and buy their way-
Money has no value for my diamond of a day!
I've walked my beach alone when a storm was raging there.
Found tranquility in tempest and sequestering thoughts and cares
Drifted while the ebb and flow surges its old refrain
And God and I had gentle ......benediction in the rain.
Another day in Paradise is winding to an end
Shadows from the sunset emboss the night and blend
As a loon does lonely canticle to an unseen mate nearby
And a quarter moon in Perigee pays servitude to sky.
There's something in my Duncanby that I cannot explain
More warming than the golden sun, more soothing than the rain.
And like a faithful lover with comfort in it's arms
It holds me, enfolds me and courts me with it's charms
And mid palaces and pleasures, I am loathe to roam
For I love my little Duncanby and my heart is in this home!
